| There have been discussions for some time within the Somerset Record Office User Group, a meeting of Somerset Record Office personnel and various professional people who use the Record Office, regarding the formation of a Friends of Somerset Archives body. Discussions are now at a stage where it is prudent to gauge the reaction of the users of Somerset Archives to the potential project. |

There are Friend of Archives bodies in many counties. They all have their own variations of what are seen as appropriate activities and it would be inappropriate to lead potential members of a Friends of Somerset Archives organisation into suggesting particular activities – something that the organisation itself would decide on instigation and over a period of time as it develops. However, some may not be aware of what other counties are typically doing and so, on the following pages, you will find some of the objectives and activities which other Friends Societies embrace. |
