The types of records available vary from one repository to another.

Church Parish Registers are mainly in the Record Offices and these comprise Baptismal, Marriage and Burial Records. Some are still kept at the Church, including those still in use.

Other records widely available are: Census returns, normally for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901; Civil Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths post 1837; Electoral Registers; Wills and Administrations; Tithe Awards and Local Newspapers and Maps.

Other records that are sometimes available include Poor Law Records, Civil Cemetery Records and Non-Conformist Records, but there are many more including personal documents, especially of landowners.
